Cornelia (Connie) Watson Pruett – Obituary

Cornelia (Connie) Watson Pruett, 95, died on April 2, 2015, in Rome, Georgia. Born on March 21, 1920, Mrs. Pruett was the daughter of the late Roderick McIver and Annie Spigener Watson, of Ridge Spring, South Carolina. After graduating from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia in 1941, she married Ralph Methven Dasher, of Savannah, Georgia, and moved to Florence, Alabama where she was an active member of First United Methodist Church and many clubs and organizations. Mr. Dasher worked as a chemist for the Tennessee Valley Authority until he later accepted the position as executive secretary/treasurer of the All American Rose Selections.
After Mr. Dasher’s sudden death in 1965, Mrs. Pruett married David Wilson Pruett, of Tuscumbia, Alabama, in 1968. She became an active member of First United Methodist Church of Tuscumbia and remained active in many clubs and organizations throughout the quad cities. Mr. Pruett died in 1992. In 2000, Mrs. Pruett moved to Rome, Georgia where she was confirmed as a communicant at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
In addition to her two husbands, Mrs. Pruett was preceded in death by her daughter, Cornelia Watson Dasher, of Birmingham, Alabama, and her three brothers, Roderick McIver Watson, Philip Spigener Watson, and Maynard Spigener Watson, all of Ridge Spring, South Carolina.
Mrs. Pruett is survived by her daughter, Margaret Dasher McLaughlin (Earl), of Mobile, Alabama; and her son, Thomas Earle Dasher, of Rome, Georgia; five grandchildren, Dr. Kevin McLaughlin (Lisa), of Covington, Louisiana, Robert McLaughlin, of Mobile, Alabama, Katherine Dasher Avery (Lane), of Rome, Georgia, Margaret Dasher Louttit (Jay), of Carrollton, Georgia, and Caroline Dasher McWhorter (Hil), of Bowdon, Georgia. Mrs. Pruett also had nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Mrs. Pruett will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rome on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Janice Bracken Wright officiating. She will be interred between her first husband and daughter at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens in Florence, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the endowment fund at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rome or the Cornelia Watson Dasher Memorial Fund at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
