Coldwater Founders Day Celebrating Tuscumbia

TUSCUMBIA– Tuscumbia was settled by American citizens from Tennessee around 1815, shortly before Alabama was recognized as one of the United States. These early settlers worked closely with the Chickasaw Indians, who were already living in the area.

By 1817 there were already houses erected and business being conducted, making Tuscumbia the oldest of the Quad Cities in the Shoals.

On Saturday, November 1, the pioneer log cabin that reputedly served as a stagecoach stop in the early days of Tuscumbia’s history, came with music, food, crafts and living history demonstrations in celebration of the founding of the city, first known as Coldwater.

 

Chicken stew was on the menu and a tour of the cabin and great music, along with some demonstrations of early life could be had to celebrate Founders Day… the Quad Cities Daily was on hand to capture this eent and this gorgeous fall day in photos:
