Colbert Heights 10th grader taken from life support

BIRMINGHAM – Jesse Rainey, 15, was taken off life support this morning at UAB Children’s Hospital. UAB officials said that Rainey, who was shot last week as the result of a prank-break in, has been in the hospital’s intensive care unit since the incident.

Jesse, played football at Colbert Heights High School. He was in a group of 8 friends who had been hanging out at a house on Jones Roads last Friday, after a game with Hatton High School.

A prank, supposedly a break-in at a friend’s house, turned tragic as Rainey was shot with a .38 calibre revolver, according to Colbert Sheriff, Ronnie May. the case has been turned over to District Attorney, Bryce Graham, who will present the facts to an upcoming session of a grand jury.
