Clarence Oneal “Wally” Wallace age 87 of Sheffield passed away March 7, 2014 Visitation will be Sunday March 9, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Colbert Memorial Chapel. The service will be Monday March 10, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the chapel burial will follow at Colbert Memorial Gardens. Bro. Mark Mayfield will be officiating.
Clarence Oneal Wallace was born August 28, 1926 in Cherokee Alabama. He joined the Army on March 20, 1943 while living in Chattanooga, TN; by giving the wrong DOB to get past the age restriction.
He served in Battery C 272ND Field Artillery Battalion. He served his country during the battles and campaigns of Northern France, Ardiennes (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland and Central Europe.
He received many decorations and citations including European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Service Stars, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW post #4919 serving on the house committee and selling poppies at Foodland. He was a prior member of Elk’s Lodge # 1385 where he served as trustee and titler. He was also known for working BINGO at the VFW and Elk’s lodge off and on for the last 25 years.
Clarence Wallace was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Wallace; mother, Lucile Smith; father, Henry Wallace; brother, Charles Wallace; and sister, Kathleen Franks.
He is survived by his wife of 27 wonderful years, Chestine Reid Spires
