Claborn Whitman Mooney – Obituary

Funeral service for Claborn Whitman Mooney, age 89, of Tanner, will be Saturday, July 26, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Doug Ripley, Rev. Benny Sivley, and Rev. Myron Mooney officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 25, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Mooney, who died Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at his residence, was born January 18, 1925, in Morgan County, to John Mooney and Zula Pfaff Mooney. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Stancil Mooney. Mr. Mooney was the oldest active member of Decatur Baptist Church. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman who loved camping and gardening. Following retirement he worked at Calhoun Community College in security.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Houston Mooney of Tanner; three sons, Billy Stephenson (Dianne) of Decatur, Perry Mooney (Joy) of Panama City, FL, and Gary Mooney (Connie) of Athens; one sister, Mary Lou McMillan of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve Slaten, Casey Tate, Bobby Gulley, David Holmes, Luke Mooney, and Benjamin Mooney. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Sparkman, Lowell Holmes, Alvin Dailey, Orvil Hall, Harold Fowler, Gene Shelton, and Boots Mashburn.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, P. O. Box 2745, Decatur, AL 35602.
