Christy Whitaker – Obituary

christyChristy Whitaker, beloved wife, mother, sister, and precious friend to many, finished her earthly race on January 13, 2016 and is now in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Christy was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on February 19, 1962 into an Air Force military family. Her life was filled with joy, adventure, wonder and so much love. She graduated from Judson College with an accounting degree and from Auburn University with a Masters of Accountancy degree. She earned her professional certification as a Certified Public Accountant and served in this capacity for a small business in Madison, Alabama.

Christy met and married her husband of over 30 years, COL Marvin Whitaker (USA-Ret.) in Huntsville in 1985 and she remained his constant companion, best friend, love of his life, and wonderful mother to their two children. Christy is remembered as a faithful and incredible Army Spouse, serving our Army Soldiers and Families with love and dedication for over 29 years during their military service.

A precious and kind spirit, Christy loved traveling, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. Christy was an avid runner and absolutely loved running marathons with her husband and her close running buddies.

Christy was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Cindy Lee. She is survived by her loving husband, Marvin, her wonderful daughter, Taylor, and her incredible son, Kyle; as well as her brother, Phillip (Lynn) Lee of Harvest, Alabama and her sister, Carla Lee (Howie) Lester of Madison, Alabama. Funeral services will be Sunday, January 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Asbury United Methodist Church in Madison, Alabama. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a Tribute Fund established in her memory through the LUNGevity Foundation at www.LUNGevity.org.
