ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson will be holding informal community meetings throughout the year to give residents the opportunity to meet with him and discuss any issues.
The first meeting will be Wednesday, June 10, at 9:30 a.m. at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church at 813 Westmoreland Ave. The meeting will last about an hour.
“This is a way to start a dialogue within our community and give citizens the opportunity to meet me and inform me of any situations of concern they may have,” Johnson said. “There may be times when citizens do not feel comfortable coming into the Police Station to discuss an issue or sensitive matter. This will be a more informal one-on-one environment to encourage those discussions.”
Johnson said he will rotate the community meetings to different areas of the city.
