CHEROKEE-On Saturday, August 11 a group of men met Cherokee High School all determined to solve a drainage problem at the Cherokee High School football field that has existed for more than fifty years. Breaking ground on a solution to the problem and making the football field flood-free.
The group included Mayor Cosby, Commissioner Hovater, former football players, construction workers, a Kelley Group engineer and State Representative Johnny Mack Morrow. Jack Cochran (Class of 1956), an outstanding running back was also among the group. Jack played on the field the first year following the completion of its construction.
On Saturday, August 11 Cypress Contracting begin to work on this project, which engineers say should solve the persistent flooding problem at the Cherokee High School football field. According to Cherokee High School Principal Pam Worsham the work completed by Tuesday.
Representative Johnny Mack Morrow said, “It certainly warms my heart to see everyone pitch in to solve a common problem that has existed for so long. Many people have contributed time, energy and money and none of this could have happened without this display of unity. People coming together to solve problems!”
