Funeral for Chelcie O. “Chet” Ellis Sr., 81, of Decatur will be Friday, March 21, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jay Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Ellis, who died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Huntsville Hospital, was born June 14, 1932, in Alabama. He was a Korean War veteran and was retired as a beloved instructor from Calhoun Community College where he was head mechanic. He was a charter member of South Decatur Church and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His wife of 56 years, Joy Holmes Ellis, preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, Chelcie “Dell” Ellis Jr. (Karla) of Hartselle and Candy Ellis Vaden of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Rayburn Ellis (Ruth) of Geraldine and Clyde Ellis of Henagar; one sister, Jane Hatley of Geraldine; and five grandchildren, Emily Vaden, Ethan Vaden, Ehren Vaden, Olivia Ellis and Ivana Ellis.
Pallbearers will be Barry Ellis, Joe Kennedy, Eli Bryant, Michael Murdock, Bart Suggs and Lavaughn Ellis.
