charoletteCharlotte Jane Carter Hampton received her new heavenly body on Sunday. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, John Paul Hampton, her three children, Deborah Hampton Williams (Richard), Stephen Hampton (Jane), and Paula Hampton Mabry (Shannon), and seven grandchildren: Catherine Hampton, Claire Hampton, Carter Williams, John Williams, Hunter Mabry, Ann Lawrence Hampton, and Abbie Williams. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Linda Carter of Nashville TN, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Charlotte grew up in Nashville Tennessee, and graduated from Florence State University (now UNA) where she was a member of the Lionettes. She met John Paul on July 3rd, 1963, and they were married November 23rd the same year. Together with Jess and Louise Sanford, they owned and operated Gibson’s Bar-B-Q until their retirement. She was a member of First Christian Church and also attended the Chase Campus of Cove Church, where her son is the campus pastor.
She was lovingly known as the Bionic Woman, due to her Rheumatoid Arthritis and the eight major joint replacement surgeries that she had. Charlotte will be remembered most for her optimism, her physical resilience, and her unmistakable laugh. She enjoyed time with her family, and attended many activities for her grandchildren. The family would like to thank the following doctors for their excellent care over the years: Dr. Howard Miller and Dr. Macon Phillips. We would also like to thank her caregivers Monica, Primrose, Brenda, and all the staff at Brookdale over the past four years.
Visitation will be at Cove Church, 366 Old Highway 431, Tuesday, July 12, at 1:00, with a Celebration of Life service following at 3:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Young Life or the Building Fund at First Christian Church.
