Charles Palmer Ricks – Obituary

Charles Palmer Ricks, age 91, of Tuscumbia, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013.

His family will receive friends today, 11-noon, in the parlor of First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia. His graveside service will follow at 12:30 in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia, with Barrett Long officiating.

Charles was a Tuscumbia native and a member of First Baptist Church of Tuscumbia and the Civitan Club. He graduated from Deshler High School in 1940 and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He served in the Army Air Corps and was a pilot of the B-29 SuperFortress. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ricks; his parents, H. C. and Ethel Carmmack Ricks; and brothers, H. C. Ricks Jr. and Richard F. Ricks. Mr. Ricks retired as manager of the Tuscumbia Utility Department in 1991.

He is survived by his son, Charlie Ricks and wife, Donna; daughter, Dora Ann Taylor and husband, Walt; brother, Cammack Ricks; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Joe Finch, Dr. Justin Parden, Charley Parden, Dr. Walt Taylor, Jim Wesson and George Carpenter.

Honorary pallbearers are Gene Autry, Judge Hal Hughston, Dr. Jerry Olsen and the choir of First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia.
