Charles Lee Heard, 86, of Hartselle, Alabama passed away Friday, October 3, 2025, at
Decatur Morgan Hospital. Charles was born on September 20, 1939, in Wedowee, Alabama to Stell and Lanie Heard. He was preceded in death by his wife Elvira, his daughter Christine, his son-in-law Tony Simpson, his parents Stell and Lanie Heard, his siblings Myrtis, Arthur, Arnton, Daisy, Jean, George, Albert and Ruby and their spouses. He is survived by his son Oliver Heard (Sandra), Daughters, Janiece Simpson, Michele Tolbert (Kevin), and Amy Heard. His grandchildren, Jason Heard, Charlee Moore (Jake), Nick Heard, Samantha Duke (Eric), Stephanie Chandler (Keith), Sammie Griffin (Michael), Stevie Griffin (Christi), Christie Eng (Chris), Leslie and fifteen great grandchildren. Nieces and Nephews.
He dedicated his life to instilling the values of love and hard work to his family. He
was a member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church. He proudly served in the United States
Army, where he met his wife while stationed in Germany. After his military service, he
began a successful career in the paper industry, becoming a lifelong papermaker. His
expertise took him all around the world, helping mills solve machine issues to produce
the highest quality paper. In his retirement, he found joy in the simple things, especially mowing, taking pride in making sure his yard and his children’s yards were as pristine as a golf course. He also loved visiting his family and friends. He was a constant in the lives that he loved and was someone you could always count on.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 2:00 PM from the Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Jimmy Sprayberry officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the service time at the funeral home.
