Charles Dewitt Bailey, age 81, of Arab, Alabama passed away at his residence during the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 29, 2024 under the care of Enhabit Hospice. He was born in Cullman County, AL on March 7, 1943 son of Loyd Marion Bailey and Iva Maze Bailey. Charles was a high school graduate and had earned an associate’s degree. He was a veteran of the Alabama National Guard. He and wife, Joyce Ann Latham, were married for over 59 years. He was a member of Northwest Baptist Church.
Charles retired with 32 years of civil service employment with the US Postal Service. He served as a window clerk beginning at the Guntersville Post Office and retired from the Arab Post Office. Prior to the post office employment, he taught school for several years. Upon retirement Charles enjoyed his yard chickens, his goats, and his horses. But his main reason for retirement and enjoyment was to spend quality time with his grandchildren.
Family members left to cherish their memories of Charles include his wife, Joyce Ann Bailey; sons, Christopher Bailey (Beverly) and Trent Bailey (Kerri); son in law, Hunter Morales; brother, Dwight Bailey; sisters, Glennis Posey, Jearldine Handy; grandchildren, Jennifer Simmons (Wayne), Farah Parish (Paul), Andrew Bailey, Lauren Bailey, and Douglas Bailey; great grandchild, Hollis McMillan; and caregiver, Kayla Bearden.
Preceding him in death includes his parents, Loyd and Iva Bailey; daughter, Glennis Bailey Morales; and sister, Hazel Kelly.
Service details for Charles include a visitation on the evening of Friday, May 31, 2024 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel (1340 North Main Street, Arab, AL 35016). The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Brother Andrew Bailey and Brother Kevin Connell will officiate. Burial will be in Arab Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Kelly, Sam Kelly, Tim Kelly, Jeff Bailey, Don Posey and Johnny Marley.
