HUNTSVILLE-Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve is now a stop on the Alabama Birding Trail! With 280 sites across the state from the mountains to the gulf, the Alabama Birding Trail highlights the best public locations for watching birds year-round.

Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve includes 740 acres of diverse forest, dense vegetation, and a spring-fed water source that supplies food and shelter for a range of both resident and migrating birds. The 4.6-mile trail system, only minutes from downtown Huntsville, offers an exceptional and convenient birding destination. A key feature for birders is the Bird Blind & Habitat, located along Moonshine Trail just a short walk from the trailhead, which accommodates protected viewing positions for over 20 birders and photographers overlooking a bubbling water feature. The preserve attracts a variety of bird species throughout all seasons. Whenever you plan a visit, you’ll be greeted by birdsong so consider bringing your binoculars.
