LEIGHTON-You are invited to attend the Centennial Celebration of the Tennessee Valley Historical Society at the Leighton Public Library located at 8740 Main Street in Leighton.  This event will be held on On November 19 beginning at 1:45PM.

Joining the celebration will be a special guest, Mr. Jimmy King, grandson of Mr. Frank King.  Frank King is the founding father of the Tennessee Valley Historical Society and hails from Leighton.  Before the program there will be a dedication of a historical marker honoring Mr. Frank King.

The purpose of this Society shall be to unite those persons and institutions interested in the pursuit study, presentation of local history; to accumulate material relative to the history of the Muscle Shoals including but not limited to Colbert, Lauderdale, and Franklin Counties; to preserve and encourage others to preserve books, pamphlets, maps, photographs, manuscripts and artifacts; and encourage others to preserve valuable historic buildings and monuments; to mark sites involved in community history; to sponsor and promote contests and scholarships and to share the knowledge gained in these pursuits through publications, pageants, lectures, tours, displays, or workshops, internet, including electronic technological advances.
