Celia Maxine Payne, age 77 of Winchester, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at St. Thomas-Rutherford surrounded by her family. She was born in Franklin County on August 10, 1944 to the late Charles and Ida Haymaker Wagner. Maxine was a member of the Winchester Church of Christ. She was a Deputy Clerk for the Franklin County Court Clerks Office for 35 years. After her retirement she enjoyed gardening, taking care of her family and spending time with her friends. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and friend and a devoted Christian. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, James Wagner and sister, Billie Wagner Smith. Maxine is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John D. Payne; son, Darrin Payne; brothers-in-law, Jackie (Kaye) Payne and Ricky Payne; nieces and nephews, Todd Payne, Tiffany (Chris) Vaughn, Tara (Justin) Babb, Jamie (Brandon) Hall, Kelly (Jordan) Williams, Joy (Danny) Cunningham; cousins, LeAnn (Andrew) Chung, Wesley Cunningham, Teresa (Glen) Smith, Bo, and Suzanne; and many special friends. Visitation will be Monday, June 13, 2022 from 11am until 1pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 1pm in the chapel of the funeral home with Bro.
