Catherine Lea Able Satcher, age 66, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in Jasper, Alabama. Born December 18, 1959, Lea lived a life centered on family, education, friendship, and service to others.
Lea was the daughter of the late Hester Guy Able, Sr. and Sara Earnest Able. On June 7, 1997, she married Roger Dale Satcher, beginning 29 years of a loving marriage and a life they treasured together. Their greatest joy was their son, Asa, whom Lea loved beyond measure and who held a very special place in her heart.
Lea loved Roger dearly and faithfully supported him throughout his career as a football coach and school administrator. His career took them to several communities over the years, and Lea embraced each new chapter of their life together. Along the way, she formed many special friendships with fellow coaches’ wives. These friendships became much more than those formed through football—Lea considered these women family and always treasured the time they spent together.
An educator herself, Lea devoted 38 years to teaching and serving students in Alabama and Mississippi. For Lea, education was more than a career. She cared deeply for her students and valued the opportunity to encourage, guide, and make a difference in their lives. Over nearly four decades, she touched countless students, families, and fellow educators. Her influence reached well beyond the classroom, and the lessons, encouragement, and care she gave so freely will remain an important part of her legacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hester Guy Able, Sr. and Sara Earnest Able; her brother, Hester Guy Able, Jr.; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bennie and Marion A. Satcher.
Lea is survived by her loving husband, Roger Dale Satcher; her beloved son, Asa Wayne Satcher (Katie Buquoi); her sisters-in-law, Beth Able and Alicia Underwood (George); and her brother-in-law, Levander Wayne Satcher (Melissa).
She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Jean Able Bradley (Stephen), Margaret Able Grubic (David), Hester Guy Able III (Chase Elizabeth), Kristen Schrimpshire (Curtis), Abe Speed (Stephanie), Charly Phillips (Andy), Ashley Webb (Matthew), and Rance Speed; along with other beloved family members, dear friends, former students and colleagues, and the many coaches’ wives whose friendships she treasured through the years.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Haleyville, Alabama, with the funeral service immediately following at 3:00 p.m. Dr. Jim Cooley and Dr. Nathan Carroll will officiate, with music provided by Eric Smith and Dr. Carroll.
