Carolyn Genevie Horton – Obituary

Carolyn Genevie Horton was born on April 25, 1930, and passed on Sept. 4, 2017, at the age of 87. Mrs. Horton made her home in Florence, Alabama for 48 years before 2016 returning to her home town of Waynesboro, Tennessee. She had made her new home at Boyd Cottages Assisted Living in Waynesboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. (J.R.) Horton.

Mrs. Horton is survived by her daughter, Nancy McGuire (Mike); grandchildren, Julie Jones and Steven Young (Dana); great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Hannah, Dylan, and Hailey; sister, Ocie Richerson, Waynesboro, Tennessee; and brother, Norman Rich, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

She was the daughter of the late John L. and Winnie Rich, formerly of Collinwood, Tennessee. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Hazel Holt and Winnie Mae Grimes, and brothers, Granville Rich, Raymond Rich, Gaynes Rich, Ralph Rich, and J W Rich.

Services will be on today, 11 a.m., at Shackelford Funeral Home, Collinwood, Tennessee, with Jim Cabiness and Ted Vafeas officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens, Collinwood, Tennessee, with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of the arrangements.

There is no public visitation. Pallbearers are Steven Young, Jeremiah Jones, Phil Grimes, Jasper Rich, Earl Rich, and Harold Rich.
