Carolyn Ann Winton Bess of Decatur, Alabama, passed away on November 1, 2024. Visitation will be November 6 from 1:00 to 2:00 at Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur, Alabama. A graveside service will be November 6 at 2:30 at Burningtree Memorial Garden with Otto Wood officiating.
Carolyn is survived by her sons David Pettey (LeeAnne) and Mike Pettey (Leisa), her grandchildren Brooke Tankersley (Nick), Alex Pettey (Hannah), Mason Pettey (Delaney), and Myles Pettey (Cassidy), and her great grandchildren Olivia Tankersley and Turner Tankersley. Her surviving siblings are Carl Winton, Willow Dean Bomar, Peggy Holland, and Kenneth Winton.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents Andy Winton and Thelma Hopkins Winton, and her siblings Gene Winton, Wanda Westmoreland, Linda Nichols, and Arlon Winton. She was also preceded in death by husbands Robert Pettey, Robert Bess, and Clarence Fristoe.
Carolyn was born April 14, 1940 in Somerville, Alabama. She graduated from Priceville High School and attended nursing school in Nashville. She spent her career in the medical field working for various hospitals and local doctor offices. She also worked for Operation Home and Crisis Services, both local charities who cared for abused and neglected women and children. She was a member of Flint Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Carl Winton, Kenneth Winton, Don Winton,, Nick Tankersley, Alex Pettey and Myles Pettey.
