Caroline Marbury Bright – Obituary

Caroline Marbury Bright died on September 3rd, just four days before her 78th birthday. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on Sept. 7, 1938, the daughter of James Alan Marbury and Winston Wofford Marbury.

She attended Mountain Brook Grammar School and Shades Valley High School graduating in 1956. Following high school, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri for two years before transferring to the University of Alabama for her final two years. While at Alabama she was a member of Delta Delta Delta social sorority.

She was a member of the Junior League of Birmingham and served as the president of the Birmingham Civic Ballet Guild. A lifelong Episcopalian, she was always active in the Episcopal Church Women’s organization, eventually serving as the diocesan president of the Episcopal Church Women in the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast.

A memorial service in celebration of and in thanksgiving for her life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 103 Darby Ave. in Sheffield, Alabama. Her ashes will be interred in the columbarium in the church’s courtyard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her younger sister, Sarah Lanford (Sally) Marbury.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, the Rev. Carl C. Bright, and by their children, Christopher O’Neal Bright, of Roswell, Georgia, and his wife, Terri, Asa Bright Campos and her husband, Carlos, of Marietta, Georgia, and Farley Connell Bright II and his wife, Erin, of Florence, Alabama. In addition, she leaves behind two beloved grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Marbury Bright, of Roswell, Georgia, and Rowan O’Neal Bright, of Maryville, Tennessee. She is also survived by her sister, Winston Marbury Milonski, of Destin, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made in Caroline’s memory either to Grace Episcopal Church in Sheffield or to the scholarship fund at Camp McDowell, the camp and conference center of the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama (105 DeLong Rd., Nauvoo, AL 35578).
