On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Carolina Kay Seamen passed on. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Walters, mother, Eleanor Lentz and younger sister Eleanor Swartz. Born June 18, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas, Carolina lived in several locations through the United States before settling with the love of her life, Steve Seamen, in Athens, Alabama.
Carolina is survived by her husband, Holmes Stevenson (Steve) Seamen, of Athens, Alabama, her son Charles (Chaz) Guenther, daughter, Cheryl (Tony) Shelby, Stepson, Holmes Stevenson (Nadine) Seamen IV, Brother’s Johnnie (Hi Ching) Walters, Donald Swartz, Ronald (Patsy) Swartz, Gary Swartz, nieces Diana (Mark) Hughes, Catherine (Tony) Hopkins, Deborah Bowles, Tiffany Aleman, Lori Bertha, Lisa Schulte, Lynn Cook, Angela Soriano, nephews Joel (Lynette) Walters, Geoffery (Kathy) Soriano, cousin Joyce (Otis) Anderson, grandsons Hayden Seamen, Sebastion Palazzo, and granddaughters Caitlyn Seamen, Kylie Palazzo.
Carolina, above all, was a people person. She never met a stranger and she was never alone long. Someone she had never seen before was always an opportunity for a new friend. A wait at the doctor’s office always developed into a chat with someone else waiting. Often becoming closer and more personal than anyone would expect, sometimes developing into a lasting relationship. Once you were her friend, every meeting or conversation ended in ‘Love you’ and it was heartfelt, not an affectation. She spent 50 years in the restaurant business, waitressing, hosting, owning, managing. At one time, managing three, 24-hour, Pancake Houses in Wichita, KS, but when she talked about it, she said she was a waitress for 50 years because that’s what she loved.
She did an amazing job raising two kids as a single mother with no child support. She’d leave a waitressing job, grab her a Dr Pepper and some Ding-Dongs and head for a new construction cleaning job to make ends meet.
She will be remembered with great fondness and deeply missed by everyone. Services will be at Valhalla Funeral Home 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, AL 35811. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM with the service immediately after, followed by a reception with light fare.
