Carol Ann Dougherty passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children on January 6th, 2023.
Mrs. Dougherty was born on February 9th, 1940, in Marjoram, Alabama, to the Reverend and Mrs. Shaffer DeVaughn Lankford. As a daughter of a Methodist minister, she attended several different schools since minsters at that time transferred to different parishes quite often. She graduated in 1958, from Tanner High School where she was a cheerleader for the football team. She married her high school sweetheart, James Parnell Dougherty, on December 20th, 1958, at Tanner Methodist Church. They were married for fifty-seven years until his passing in 2015.
She is survived by her daughters Teresa Lyn Dougherty, and Saundra Renee Campbell (Tony); one son James Brannon Dougherty (Leigh); grandchildren James Tyler Campbell and Katie Ann Campbell; and one great-grandson Greyson James Campbell.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 8th, 2023, at Athens City Cemetery at 3:00pm.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Kindred Hospice and the caretakers from Home Instead for their loving care during the last months of her life.
