caffieCaffie Knickrehm went to live with her Savior early on January 15, 2014 after a long hard fought battle with lung cancer. She was at home with her husband Jon of 54 years, due to her wishes, during the terminal stages. She spent much of this time visited by daughter Marjorie Bishop and her daughter’s family Bill, Christine, Will, Cynthia and Jonathan who came to buoy her spirits. Her sons James and Jon F. came for weeks at a time to help out around the house. Their wives Kathie and Staci were very supportive. During the holidays, James and family Kathie, Dustin, Jessica with husband Drew and great granddaughter Lillian also came to visit and comfort her. Jon, Staci and Kyla called from Florida to complete the celebration. Hospice provided equipment and helped in her care and comfort. Caffie was born in New York but grew to think of herself as a Southerner. She loved square dancing, Lady Friends, Red Hats and most everyone she met. She loved to tell of her Grandchildren’s accomplishments (especially Jonathan and Kyla). She loved to sew and had many hobbies. In addition to the above, she is survived by one brother Royal and his children Mary-Kim, Martin, Marc, Deirdre and Ruth and all of their children. She has several cousins remaining in the New York area. Hampton Cove Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church from 6:30 -8:00 PM on Friday with a Memorial Mass at Holy Spirit at 10:00 AM on Saturday. Burial will follow at Hampton Cove Cemetery next to her parents Sheppard and Katie Somers. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Catholic Charities or Hospice of North Alabama.
