Buddy Grubbs was always the life of the party. Gifted with a dry wit, a continuous smile and with amazing story telling ability, Buddy cut a wide path in his 84 year earthly pilgrimage. Allen Belvin Grubbs, always known as Buddy, was the last of 9 children born on Sept. 16, l939 to the late James Clifton Grubbs and Terra Rakestraw Grubbs and died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He grew up in South Lee County and married the love of his life, Marilyn Joyce Thompson Grubbs, on March 16, l961, a marriage of 46 years until her death on Oct. 31, 2007. Buddy loved the outdoors, the open country side and loved his country. He spent 29 years and 3 months as a truck driver for Super Sagless in Tupelo. He later worked 6 years in the Road Department of Lee County before complete retirement. Buddy loved hunting and fishing the streams, rivers and lakes of this area. He loved riding his 4 wheeler and working with his tractor. A man who loved “supervising”-Buddy loved to tell others what to do! He enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and eating breakfast at Kelly’s Grocery in Palmetto-mostly to tell who told the biggest lie. Buddy loved going to Church, attended Oak Valley Christian Church for many years and, at his death, was a member of Palmetto Baptist Church.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 11 AM Saturday, March 16, 2024 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with his nephew and niece, Ronnie and Rita Hester Curbow speaking. Private burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 PM-7PM on Friday, 3/15 and at 10 AM Saturday, 3/16 all at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving their lifelong friends and family. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed at www.hollandfuneraldirectors.com/Livestreaming at 11 AM Saturday and will be archived thereafter.
