HUNTSVILLE – Last night, Congressman Mo Brooks (R-AL) hosted a reception at the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library in honor of this year’s 11 North Alabama U.S. Service Academies appointees.
Congressman Brooks said, “These appointees represent some of the best and brightest young men in North Alabama. They have all demonstrated outstanding academic achievements, dedication, and a desire to serve our nation. The 2013 U.S. Service Academies appointees include 11 young men representing eight high schools: six West Point appointees, two Air Force Academy Appointees, one Naval Academy appointee, one Merchant Marine Academy appointee, and one Coast Guard Academy appointee. Alabamians can be proud to send these exceptional students into service.”

Congressman Brooks has established a nominating board to review applications, interview prospective candidates and make final selection of Alabama District 5 nominees to be submitted to the academies. Nominations are determined using the competitive method with all nominees submitted unranked to the Academies, allowing equal opportunity for each candidate nominated from the district.
