GUNTERSVILLE-The weather held out last Saturday, May 11, for the Alabama Wildlife Federation / Alabama Army National Guard Wild Game Cook-Off. The food was fantastic with Crappie Quesadilla, Gobbler & Greens and Deer Fingers as just a few of the tasty dishes served up at the Civitan Park in Guntersville, Alabama. Milla Sachs, Executive Assistant to the Mayor stated, “The Guntersville Wild Game Cook-Off is the culinary highlight of the year!”
Cooking and serving up the top dish, Crappie Quesadilla was Bootlegg BBQ including Mike Page, Kedia Page, Mickey Smith, Katherine Smith, Kevin Blake and Hunter Smith who were thrilled to win Best Overall.
While Bootlegg BBQ won Best Overall, there is no denying the quality of other wild game dishes. Other winners included:
Fish Division: First Place – Bootlegg BBQ including Mike Page, Kedia Page, Mickey Smith, Katherine Smith, Kevin Blake and Hunter Smith cooking Crappie Quesadilla; Second Place – Guntersville Boat Crew including Bart Muse, Tina Muse, Jeff Purdum and Cass Purdum cooking Baja Crappe Tacos; Third Place – Plus P’s including Scott Pellowski, Mark Pellowski, Zac Plumstead, Cameron Boyd and Hayden Rungruang cooking Blackened Wahoo Tacos.
Fowl Division: First Place –First South Farm Credit cooking Gobbler & Greens; Second Place – Belley BBQ including Mitchell Kelley, Penny Kelley and Breonna Kelley cooking Pheasant Bombs; Third Place – Bootlegg BBQ including Mike Page, Kedia Page, Mickey Smith, Katherine Smith, Kevin Blake and Hunter Smith cooking Wild Turkey 101.
Game Division: First Place – Belley BBQ including Mitchell Kelley, Penny Kelley and Breonna Kelley cooking Deer Fingers; Second Place – First South Famr Credit cooking Bambi On A Bun; Third Place – Chonita’s Cookers including Mark McGrady, Severa McGrady, Jasmine Uribe and Amberlie Owens cooking Wild Boar Carnitas.
The Alabama Army National Guard People’s Choice Award went to Plus P’s including Scott Pellowski, Mark Pellowski, Zac Plumstead, Cameron Boyd and Hayden Rungruang. This year’s 1st Place Presentation Award went to Chonita’s Cookers while 2nd Place Presentation Award went to Remax Outdoors (Renegades).
In addition to the great food there was a huge silent auction and live entertainment.
