“This morning shortly after 9:00 the police department was notified of a threat of an explosive device at Julian Newman Elementary. The school administration followed their emergency procedures including evacuating the school.

Staff from the school along with our officers searched the school and determined there was no threat present. After a second search of the building the students and staff returned to the building and resumed their day.

Our department has obtained search warrants attempting to locate and identify the person responsible for the threat. Anytime we have a situation of this nature we make every effort to locate and charge the person responsible. There were no injuries in this morning’s incident.

We are also talking to several other departments in Tennessee, Florida and North Carolina that had threats today at their schools.”
