ETOWAH COUNTY-The body found in a shallow grave on Tuesday, April 6th has been identified as that of the missing Douglas woman, Judith McElry Carranza. Douglas Police began investigating Carranza’s disappearance on April 1. On April 6th the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was contacted about the missing woman at which time they became involved in the investigation.
It is not known at this time how Carranza, age 60
died. The body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensics in Huntsville for an autopsy.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office have charged two people with murder in Carranza’s death. Elizabeth Dawn Austin, age 21, and
Curtis Lee Austin age 24 were arrested in Panama City, Florida where they are awaiting extradition back to Marshall County. The two suspects both reside at 600 Walker Road in Horton.
Authorities have not released any more details other than that the two suspects have been arrested in the murder. Investigators have not revealed the connection between Carranza and the Austins.
