Billy Ray Nelson 75, of Russellville, AL passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 at Valley Grove Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow, 1:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery. Greg Beasley will officiate.
Billy was a native of Colbert County, AL. He was retired from Reynolds Metals, where he worked for thirty-eight years. He was also owner and operator of Nelson’s Tree Service for over fifty years. Billy was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents Turner and Ella Mae Nelson; sisters: Nell Jean Aycock and Betty Green; and brother Pete Nelson.
Survivors are his wife Cecile Nelson; step-daughter Christine Richey (Roger) of Muscle Shoals; grandchildren: Anthony Richey, Tuscumbia and Christopher Richey, Birmingham; sisters Maejean Tubbs, Russellville and Wanda Balentine (Danny), Florence; brothers Grant Nelson, Florence, and Richard Nelson, Russellville; aunt Judy Killough; nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend Richard Pickens.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice, nephew Jackie Roberson, and caregiver Trena Ricks.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Valley Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.
