Billy G. Williamson, age 68, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. A devoted husband, father, educator, firefighter, and friend, Billy leaves behind a legacy defined by compassion, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and community.
Born on April 2, 1958, in Fayette, Alabama, Billy spent much of his youth in Okeechobee, Florida, where his adventurous spirit and selflessness were evident from an early age. During summers spent working as a lifeguard, he heroically saved a child from drowning-an act that reflected the courage and servant’s heart that would characterize his life.
Billy graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School with the Class of 1976 before continuing his education at University of Alabama at Birmingham. He devoted more than 30 years of his professional life to Dialysis Clinic, Inc., where he found not only meaningful work, but also a second family among his colleagues and friends. His passion for helping others extended into the classroom as well, as he spent many years teaching at Jefferson State Community College, generously sharing his extensive knowledge, experience, and love for his profession with countless students whose lives he profoundly impacted.
In addition to his medical career and teaching, Billy proudly served for 20 years with the Gardendale Fire Department, continuing a lifelong commitment to protecting and serving others.
Outside of his professional accomplishments, Billy was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and spending time on the family farm. Yet his greatest happiness came from simply being with those he loved. Whether cheering from the sidelines at a ball field, attending practices, or taking walks with his family, Billy treasured every moment spent alongside them.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Andy Murphy, of Okeechobee, Florida.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Glenda Williamson; his daughter, Sara Williamson; and his son, Daniel Williamson of Gardendale, Alabama. He also leaves behind many cherished friends, extended family members, coworkers, students, and community members who will forever remember his kindness, wisdom, humor, and steadfast presence.
To his friends and family, Billy wished to leave this final message:
“Thank you for being my rock and for supporting me when I needed it most.”
Though deeply missed, Billy’s legacy of service, strength, and love will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral services; however, a small burial service for immediate family and close friends will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Cullman Mt. Zion Cemetery, located across from the Cullman Agricultural Center on Highway 31 North.
