Billy F. Perkins, age 90, of Huntsville, passed away on January 31, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dona S. Perkins. His parents Ed and Minnie Perkins. Brothers Pete (Huberta) and Jack (Martha) Perkins. He is survived by his children Emily Spears (Jimmy) and David Perkins and granddaughter, Rachel Spears.
Born in Georgia, he graduated from Georgia Tech in 1958 and from Florida Institute of Technology with his Masters. He came to Redstone Arsenal in 1959 as a Lieutenant in the Army. Upon leaving the Army he worked on a variety of programs in the missile field and advanced to Chief of Contracts for the Ballistic Missile Defense Command where he retired in 1991. During his career he was recognized by the Department of the Army for Meritorious Civilian Service and received a Competition in Contracting Award from the Secretary of the Army.
An active member of First United Methodist Church, he served on many committees and was Chairman of the Administrative and Trustees Boards. He also volunteered at Huntsville Hospital for several years.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, February 4 at 1:30 at First United Methodist Church in the chapel.
