Jean attended Livingston State Teachers College, where she earned her degree in education. She devoted 30 years to teaching elementary students, touching countless lives throughout her career. Jean played an important role in the transition to the new elementary school in Hamilton, Alabama, and served as a mentor to many younger teachers who went on to have long and meaningful careers in education. Jean’s dedication to her students, her colleagues, and the teaching profession created a lasting legacy that continues through the many lives she touched.
Jean was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and anything that kept her mind active. She had a green thumb and found great joy in tending to her plants and flowers. A sports fan, Jean especially loved cheering on the Auburn Tigers. She enjoyed solitude and the quiet life she shared in the home she built with her late husband. Above all, she loved her grandchildren and enjoyed the time they spent together, often cuddled up with a good book in her lap.
She is survived by her son, Cy Christian (Jamie); daughters, Lisa Hamilton and Lynne Smith; grandchildren, Danna Page, Erin Cook (Stephen), Anna Marie Rosales (Cameron), Emma Hays (Jeff), Christian Hamilton (Heather), Lindsay Hamilton, and Jesse LaRue; and three great-grandchildren, Jackson Cook, Avery Page, and Jack Christian Page.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Onnie Bell and Dan Crossley; her beloved husband of over 50 years, Jack; her sister, Mearle Barbour; and her brother, Fred Crossley.
The Family will receive friends on Saturday, September 12th from 11am-12pm at Nichols Marion County Funeral Home in Hamilton. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery (Birmingham, AL) at a later date.
