Funeral service for Beverly Jane Walker Crowell, age 75, of Trinity, will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church with Father Charles Merrill officiating and Parkway Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service.

Mrs. Crowell, who died Friday, September 27, 2024, at Riverside Assisting Living, was born November 22, 1948, in New York to Norman Walker and Katherine Harvey Walker.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Crowell, and her parents.

Beverly left upstate New York with her husband, Richard, in 1972, to make their new home as a young married couple in north Alabama.  After beginning her career in education at Johnson High School in Huntsville for a couple of years, Beverly transferred to Decatur City where she enjoyed a long tenure as the Marketing Education Coordinator and later retired as the Assistant Principal of Austin High School.  The students at Austin High School were the pride of Beverly Crowell’s career.  Beverly enjoyed nothing more than seeing the students travel through Austin on their way to adulthood and bear witness to their growth into the successful young adults that they became.  The Black Bears were not only Beverly’s career, they were also her extended family.  Beverly was regularly in attendance at Friday night football games and the Bears’ basketball games long after her retirement.  Although dementia stole most of her memories, she never forgot that she was a Black Bear.  Beverly also served as an elected member of Trinity’s Town Council and the principal of St. Ann’s School.

Beverly also enjoyed a well-rounded life outside of her career.  She was a seamstress, regularly attended her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, was a devoted wife to her husband, and a staunch political advocate for “fairness” in this world.  She will be missed by all who knew her.  Beverly’s children would like to pass along her frequent parting words, “Stay safe and drive sober.”

She is survived by her son, Kory Crowell (Sally Collins); three daughters, Kelly Armor (Ronald E.); Klancy Brewer (James), and Kari Griffith (John S., Jr.); brother, Scott Walker; sister, Pamela Fleury (Donald); 11 grandchildren, Adam Armor, Janna Armor, Justin Armor, Zachary Armor, Kailyn Crowell, Cullen Crowell, Finley Crowell, Lochlyn Crowell, Kaitlyn Brewer, John S. “Trae” Griffith, III, and Kathryn Reese Griffith; great-grandchild, Branson Armor; and a host of nephews/nieces, great-nephews/nieces, and great-great-nephews/nieces.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
