Betty Ruth Sharp Carroll was born May 24, 1927, in Decatur, Alabama.  On Friday morning May 3, 2024, departed this life in the comfort of her home, at the age of 96.  She was the only daughter and last surviving child, born to the late Robert and Lucy Hunt Sharp.

Betty married Lee Carroll (who passed away in 1989) in 1943 and they had 3 sons, Ronnie Lee and Michael David who preceded her in death. She is survived by one son Mitch, who lives in Ashland, five grandchildren along with four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  She had 3 brothers, J.R. Sharp, Kirk Sharp, and Ralph Sharp, who are all deceased.

Betty has always been a hard worker.  She had a sweet shop for many years where she made cakes, pies, doughnuts and doughnut holes on the square in Ashland and drove a school bus.  Then she opened a restaurant just outside of Ashland and operated it for several years.

After leaving the restaurant business, she decided she wanted to be a teacher, so she graduated from Rust College and taught kindergarten in Ashland for 25 years.

She became a member of Ashland Baptist Church in 1956 where she taught Sunday School for over 60 years. She was Ron and Mitch’s Cub Scout den mother for many years and was also an active member of the Eastern Star.

Betty will greatly be missed by family and friends; however, she assured us all with a note that she was ready and looked forward to being reunited with her husband Lee, in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers send donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital which she was involved with from the time Danny Thomas announced he wanted to build it.

Services honoring Betty’s life will be Monday, May 6, 2024, at Ashland Baptist Church with visitation starting from 11 AM until service time, 1 PM with Bro. Joe McIntire officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ashland Cemetery.

We invite you to share memories with Betty’s family.
