Betty Lou Kilgore Gant, 86, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025. She was born April 23, 1939, in Walker County, Alabama.
Betty was married to her high school sweetheart, Richard “Leon” Gant, for 41 years. She was preceded in death by Leon, her parents Lattie and Eunice Kilgore, and her brother Giles Kilgore.
She worked as a librarian at Sandusky Elementary School and later spent over 20 years with EBSCO Industries. A faithful member of Riverchase Church of Christ, Betty was active in the Ladies Ministry and the LiveWires group. She especially enjoyed traveling with her church friends and creating memories filled with laughter, fellowship, and joy.
Known affectionately as “Ninnie,” Betty was a beloved presence at church, the ballpark, and every activity involving her grandsons. Her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother brought her immense joy.
She is survived by her daughter, Angie Fitts (Danny) of Helena, Alabama; grandsons Trevor Fitts (Abby) of Lexington, Kentucky, Nathan Fitts (Emily) of Helena, Alabama, and Richard Fitts (Anna Grace) of Boston, Massachusetts; and great-grandchildren Rhett, Archie, Lucy, Ollie, and Baker Fitts.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sue Morrow; and nieces and nephews Beth Bullocks (Junior), Amy Kennedy (Jerry), all of Parrish, Alabama, and Shane Gant (Amanda) of Birmingham, Alabama.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Odom Memorial Cemetery in Parrish, Alabama. Nathan Whitaker will officiate.
