Bessie Glynn Pitts age 88 of Athens, passed away Sunday October 15, 2017 at Athens Rehab and Healthcare. Mrs. Pitts was born April 19, 1929 in Limestone County, AL to Claude Mitchell and Cora Eleanor Fowler Mitchell.
Services will be Thursday, October 19, 2017 2:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Jason Shackleford and Mike Green officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Pitts was a member of Round Island Baptist Church. She worked in the cafeteria at Tanner High School for 13 years, she loved yard work and going to auctions.
Preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Doyle “J.D.” Pitts; grandson, Chris McMeans; brother, Wayne Mitchell; sister, Etheleen Self; brother-in-law, Robert Powers.
Survived by three daughters, Linda McMeans and husband, Dennis, Joan Shackleford and husband, Sammy and Connie McNutt and husband, Russ; four grandchildren, Angela Smith and husband, Steve, Jason Shackleford and wife, Ashley, Adam McNutt and wife, Leslie and Daniel McNutt and wife, Katlyn; nine great-grandchildren, Dylan McMeans, Nate Smith, Dalton Shackleford, Gabriel McNutt, Andrew Smith, Josey Shackleford, Catherine McNutt, Isaac McNutt and Randi Kate Shackleford; two sisters, Dean Garlen and Brenda Looney and husband, J. Hugh; sister-in-laws, Sarah Mitchell and Opaline Powers; several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Dennis McMeans, Sammy Shackleford, Russ McNutt, Jason Shackleford, Daniel McNutt and Adam McNutt.
