Bernadette C. Sokol, 85, of Fayetteville, Tenn., died peacefully on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, Ala., after a long illness.

Mrs. Sokol is survived by five sons, Steven (Lea), of Fountain City, Ind., Mark (Teresa) of Eden Prairie, Minn., Randall (Susan) of Killingworth, Conn., Daniel of Fayetteville, Douglas of Fayetteville; daughter Connie Payne (Jeffrey) of Lewisburg; and sister Elizabeth “Betty” Pickart.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Kenneth M. Sokol, and her sister LaVerne Schulte.

Mrs. Sokol was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren: Brenna Martin (Jeffrey), Kelsey Sokol, Ashley Sokol, Stephanie Sokol, Olivia Parker (Spencer), Natalie Sokol, Lindsey Sokol, and Jason Payne; one step-grandchild, Quinton Allen (Emily); and two step-great-grandchildren, Ella and Sam Allen.

She was born Bernadette Catherine Kuen in Norway, Iowa on October 19, 1931 to Emma (Broz) and Arthur Kuen. She graduated from Norway, Iowa High School, Class of 1949, and married Kenneth M. Sokol in Walford, Iowa, on April 5, 1951.

In 1979, Bernadette and Kenneth relocated to Fayetteville, Tenn, where Kenneth was Vice President and General Manager of Amana Refrigeration.

In 2014, Mrs. Sokol was recognized by the Lincoln County Medical Center Auxiliary for 30 years of continuous volunteer service at Lincoln Medical Center. She was a charter member of the Auxiliary, where she and other Auxiliary members established the hospital gift shop.

Visitation with the family will be on Monday, June 19th, from 2-4 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Fayetteville, Tenn., with Funeral Mass immediately following at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family requests any donations in her memory be made to the Lincoln Medical Center Auxiliary, c/o Lincoln Medical Center, 109 Medical Center Blvd, Fayetteville, TN 37334.
