Benny Allen Spencer, born November 8, 1949, in Winchester, Tennessee to the late R.L. and Betty June (Smith) Spencer Jr. Benny passed away at his home in Estill Springs surrounded by family on April 15, 2023. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps joining the USMC in 1969, at the age of 19. He valued his duty highly. He earned a Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, and Navy Commendation Medal during his service. After being honorably discharged, he joined CSX where he was employed for thirty-eight years until his retirement.
Benny was an avid outdoorsman. His love of the outdoors began at an early age and carried on throughout his life. If he wasn’t out riding his tractor on the farm, you could find him on his boat fishing. Once while camping on the banks of Tims Ford, Benny saved a man’s life from drowning. This is just one example of Benny being at the right place at the right time. Some would consider him a local hero.
Benny is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Casey Spencer (Ben) Merrill of Cowan; step-daughters, Jill Relford of Bell Buckle, and Riley Rees of California; grandson, Cole Relford of Bell Buckle; brothers, Bobby (Karen) Spencer of Winchester, Bruce (Joy) Spencer of Winchester; and Brent (Angie) Spencer of Decherd; nephews, Lee (Leah) Spencer of Nolensville, Bruce (Alisha) Spencer of Chattanooga, and Blake (Abby) Spencer of Chattanooga; niece, Lindsey Spencer (Macy) Bower of Murfreesboro; several great-nephews and great-nieces, many cousins, and several friends that were more like family.
