Graveside Services for Mrs. Barbara Jean Minter, age 86 of Alexander City, will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 11:30 A.M. at Oak Grove Methodist Church Cemetery with Minister Brendan Chance officiating. Her visitation will take place at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville beginning at 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.
Mrs. Minter passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Chapman Healthcare Facility in Alexander City. She born and raised in Meridian, Mississippi and moved to Alabama in 1965. Barbara was in nursing from 1952 until the mid-1970’s, and also was a substitute teacher in Lineville. Mrs. Minter enjoyed traveling around the U.S. with her late husband Charles while he worked. She also enjoyed singing, fishing, and cooking special things for her friends and loved ones. Barbara was a member of Alexander City Church of Christ.
Mrs. Minter is survived by one son, Terry Minter (Michelle) of Mississippi; her daughter-in-law, Karen Engstrom of Alexander City; Her grandchildren: Michael Engstrom (Ginger), Kevin Engstrom (Libby), Tyler Minter, Tristen Ingram, Kristen Minter, and Tyler Curvin; plus several great-grandchildren, and some special nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ernestine Dandridge, and Jewel Dandridge; her husband, Charles Minter; one son, Robert “Bobby” Engstrom; and two brothers: James Dandridge and Dr. Howard Freeman.
Tim McCain, Tim Pilkington, Randy Gill, Shon Dukes, Phil Riddle, and Melvin Luke will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael and Kevin Engstrom.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made towards the Oak Grove Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, or the Alexander City Church of Christ: 745 Tallapoosa St, Alexander City, AL 35010.
