Mrs. Barbara Eleanor Horner age 83 passed away on Saturday, June 10th, 2023 after a valiant battle to recover from a debilitating stroke. Mrs. Barbara Horner was born to Virgie Leona Clingan Winchester and Hill Wright Winchester on February 21st, 1940. She was the third of four children—Shannon Winchester, Elizabeth Winchester Evans, and Junior Winchester who all preceded Barbara our mother in death. They are surely rejoicing at her homecoming now!
Other close family members who are rejoicing to see Barbara in Heaven are Crystal Renee Sandlin Mom’s youngest daughter who passed July 8th, 2022 and Jerre S. Chick her son-in-law who passed October 24th, 2004. Of course there are many other friends and family who have passed. What a sweet rejoicing! No more pain. No more suffering. A new body in Christ!
Barbara is survived by her husband of 65 years John G. Horner. They raised their family in the military and have seeded us with service, compassion, generosity, truth, and strength—enduring traits and values that will continue within our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren! Barbara and John created a legacy based in love that we will always respect and cherish as we keep it alive in our and our children’s hearts.
Barbara is also survived by two daughters Tracye Harrison whose husband is Dan Harrison and Leona Chick whose husband is David Hovey; she is also survived by Crystal Sandlin’s husband Bobby Sandlin as well as our many grandchildren and their families.
Surviving in Crystal Sandlin’s family are husband Bobby, eldest son Scott who is with Tabitha, and Scott’s children Landon and Loghan. Daughter Brandie who is with husband Justin, and son Stephen is with wife Ashton and their children Kacen, Avery, and Kelly Renee.
The next daughter Tracye Harrison is with husband Dan Harrison. They have two daughters. Nicolette is with husband Josh and Sarah is engaged to James. Nicol’s children are Maddi and Gabe. Sarah’s children are Lexie and Kaleb.
The oldest daughter is Leona Chick who is with husband David Hovey. Leona’s three children are son Matthew whose wife is Stephanie. Their children are Jayden, Layla, and Elora. Daughter Cynthia is with Drew, and their children are Kiera, Hannah, and Dominic. Leona’s youngest son John is with Sylvia. John’s children are Joseph and Justin. Great granddaughter Hannah and Bo are proud parents of Audrey Lynne who is John and Barbara’s first Great, Great Grandchild.
We are thankful and blessed to have had such a mother as Barbara Eleanor Horner. She was a creative and wonderful force with which to be reconned.
Mom, we love you and miss you already. We will continue to make you proud!
A visitation will be Wednesday June 14, 2023 10:15AM – 11:00AM at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville, AL. Funeral service at 11:00AM in the chapel. Burial to follow in Old Union Cemetery in Belmont, Miss.
