Avelyn Smith, age 82 of Arley, passed away Monday, April 21, 2025 at Walker Baptist Hospital in Jasper, Alabama. She was born December 19, 1942 to Troy and Christine Johnson. Avelyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a hardworking, strong-willed lady who “meant what she said, and said what she meant!” Avelyn was also a caregiver and a provider for her family. She loved going to church and was a faithful member of Arley Congregational Christian Church for over 50 years. Visitation will be Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison, where the service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Arley Congregational Cemetery (Smith School House). Brother Robert Partridge and Brother Bobby Smith will officiate. Avelyn was survived by her son, Bobby (Teresa) Smith; grandchildren, Caleb (Whitney) Smith, Derek (Katie) Smith, Megan Smith, and Jaimie (Matt) Dozier; great grandchildren, Raylee Smith, Nolen Smith, Kylah Smith, and Navy Dozier; brother Gale (Vickie) Johnson and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolen Smith; parents, Troy and Christine Johnson; son, Marty Smith; brothers, Carol Johnson and Roger Johnson.
