Audie Mac Christopher Jr. was born in Limestone County, Ala. on Dec. 1, 1924, to Audie and Nellie Christopher and died April 10, 2014.
Graduating from West Limestone High School in 1943, Mac then served his country as a bombardier/navigator in the U.S. Army/Air Force flying several missions over Germany and France from 1943 to 1945.
He attended Auburn University from 1946 to 1947, and was admitted to the first class of the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1948, graduating with a DMD degree in 1952. Mac established his dental practice in Sheffield in 1953, practicing for the next 49 years, well beyond the normal age of retirement. He valued his relationships with patients, many of whom were in his care for 40 plus years.
A member of local, district, and national associations, he was inducted to the International College of Dentists in 1967. During this time, he was active in Boy Scouts and church and civic affairs serving on Sheffield Board of Education for several years. He also served as chairman of the Administrative Board of the First United Methodist Church.
Married to his loving wife, Carolyn Christopher, for 65 years, they had three wonderful sons, Stephen, David, and Richard. He was preceded in death by Carolyn, David and Richard. Mac is survived by son, Stephen Christopher (Michelle), of Destin, Fla.; grandchildren, Dylan Christopher and Susannah Johnson, of Sheffield; Katelyn and Lenora Christopher, of Hamilton, Miss.; niece, Dixie (Troy) Pritchett, of Lacey Springs, Ala.; and a nephew, George Christopher (Jessica), of Lester, Ala.
