Athens State Librarian Robert Burkhardt Takes State Award

burkhardtATHENS – The executive board of AACRL (Alabama Association of College and Research Libraries) has selected Dr. Robert Burkhardt as the recipient of the Sue O. Medina Significant Contribution Award for 2014.  Burkhardt serves as the Director of the Athens State University Library and Professor of Bibliography.  He was nominated by retired Athens State librarian Dr. Susan Herring in recognition of his achievements and contributions in the area of college and research libraries.

The award was given to Burkhardt at the AACRL annual meeting in late April in Huntsville.  Jennifer Long, Reference Librarian at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and Past-President of the AACRL, presented the award.

The Alabama Association of College and Research Libraries is one of 42 state and regional chapters of the Association of College and Research Libraries, itself a division of the American Library Association. AACRL is a professional association of academic librarians and others interested in improving the ability of academic librarians and information professionals to serve the information needs of the higher education community and to improve learning, teaching and research.
