ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson has asked anyone with information on two suspects who robbed and ran down a woman on Tuesday morning, August 9. they are looking for a thin white male, in his early 20’s. The female had short curly brownish/red hair and also appeared to be in her early 20’s. The vehicle is a white late 1990’s Ford Escort 4 door with black rims.
The phone that was stolen is a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 valued at $350.00. If anyone has information on this case we ask they call the Athens Police Department at 256-233-8700.
Here is a statement from Chief Johnson:
“This morning the police department received a call that a female had been robbed and run over by a vehicle on 5th Ave at Jefferson Street.
When officers arrived they talked with the victim. She told officers she had posted her cell phone for sale on yard sale a Facebook website. She said a female responded to the post and they had arranged to meet this morning.
The victim said when the female pulled up a male in his early 20’s was driving. The female was in the back seat with a new born baby. She handed the phone to the male and he didn’t give it back. The victim then reached inside the car to get her phone and the male grabbed her arm and started driving off dragging her onto the roadway.
The victim was able to get away after a short distance. The victim was injured and transported by ambulance to Athens Limestone Hospital for treatment.
