It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Anita Carol Hornbuckle. Carol, a current resident of Guntersville, Alabama, and formerly of Arab, passed away at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL on Thursday, March 19, 2026. Born in Marshall County on April 16, 1964, Carol was the cherished daughter of Homer Paul “Sonny” Hornbuckle, Jr. and Nada Ann Light. Carol graduated from Arab High School in 1982 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree. She worked as a hospital administrative assistant and was a member of Connect Church in Guntersville.
Carol was known for her gentle, kind, and caring nature. She was passionate about volunteering and supporting St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafting, and cooking. Her favorite color was yellow, and she treasured her collection of sun hats and spending time at the beach. Above all, Carol took pride and happiness in her role as “GiGi,” grandmother to Lily Grace.
Family members Carol leaves behind to cherish memories include her daughter, Samantha C. Davenport (Nathan); granddaughter, Lily Grace Davenport; sisters, Kim Childs (Stephen) and Cindy Self (Shane); niece, Tracey Abernathy (Dakota); nephew, Wyatt Self; bonus sister, Kay Rice; and special friend, Dr. Norm Presse; and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sonny Hornbuckle, Jr. and Nada Light Hornbuckle; grandparents, Homer and Pauline Hornbuckle, Sr. and Plumer and Faye Light.
Services for Carol will be Monday, March 23, 2025 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Family and friends will gather for visitation beginning at 12:00pm with the funeral service at 2:00pm. Brother Brandon Love will be conducting services. Pallbearers escorting Carol to her final resting place in Mt. Oak / Ruth Cemetery will be Dakota Abernathy, Stephen Childs, Wyatt Self, Cole Baker, Shane Self and Matt Ward. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel are assisting with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donating to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Carol’s memory.
