Andrew Jack “A.J.” Looney, of Leighton, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the age of 96. His visitation will be Saturday, October 13, 2018, from noon to 2 p.m. at Old Bethel Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Brother Phillip Potter and Brother John Webb officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Creek Cemetery.
A.J. was a native of Colbert County and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Old Bethel Baptist Church and a 65-year member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 760 Muscle Shoals. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Mary Evelyn Looney; parents, Henry and Exie Looney; son, Andy Joe Looney; daughter-in-law, Linda Looney; sisters, Hazel Vandiver and Rachel Morgan; and brother, Curtis Looney.
He is survived by his sons, Jimmy Looney and Alvin Looney (Pansy), both of Leighton; grandchildren, Dusty Looney, Cheryl Looney Tverberg, Angela Campbell (Brian) and Mechelle Looney; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and dog, Booger.
Pallbearers will be Allen Morgan, Wade Nix, Cory Rumble, Brian Campbell, Dusty Looney and Donnie Cansler. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Vandiver and Dewey Pace.
