Funeral services for Mr. Alton Davis Hendon, age 91 of Lineville, will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Barfield Baptist Church with Rev. Ronald McKeever and Rev. Braden Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
Mr. Hendon was born in Randolph County and was a Clay County resident since 1953. He was a member of Barfield Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a long time member of the church choir. A loving husband and father, Mr. Hendon also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved gardening, woodworking and the challenge of repairing small motors.
He is survived by his children: Scott Hendon (Dianne) of Cullman, Sherry H. Wood (Russell) of Florence, Stanley Hendon (Melinda) of Chattanooga, TN and Stuart Hendon (Gerri) of Montgomery, seven grandchildren: Andrea Tew (David), Candace LeMay (Dale), Joshua Hendon (Taylor), Russell Wood, Jr., Samuel Wood, Brock Hendon and Mary Braden Hendon, four great-grandchildren: Adeline and June LeMay, John Tew and Anna Katherine Tew, a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Davis Hendon and Mae Belle Jeter Hendon, his wife, Georgia Ellon Morrison Hendon and a brother, James Hardy Hendon.
Active pallbearers will be: Joshua Hendon, Russell Wood, Sam Wood, David Tew, Dale LeMay and Brock Hendon.
The family requests no flowers; instead donations may be made to: 72 East Mill Rd, Lineville, AL 36266.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Barfield Baptist Church prior to the service.
Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville is in charge of arrangements.
