Ms. Almina Geraldine "Gerry" Meinert Almina Geraldine Meinert, age 97, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at her residence in Arab, Alabama. Mrs. Meinert was born January 11, 1925 in Illinois to Charles and Mary Dennis Elbe. “Gerry” was a dedicated and faithful member of the Catholic Church. She was baptized May 1946 at St Francis Solanus in Quincy, Illinois. Gerry was married to Leo George Meinert (DOD April, 2010) for 64 Years. Gerry was a dedicated Registered Nurse who took her job seriously. She cared for many patients for many years at hospitals and schools. After retiring from nursing she continued to volunteer as a Pink Lady at the hospital for another 10 years. Gerry was an avid bridge player, who was a master in Duplicate, and always played to win! Gerry had a fun side to her personality as well. She loved spending time with family and friends. While very sociable, she was a very strong and determined woman who never hesitated to speak her mind. She loved family gatherings, especially at Christmas playing dirty Santa and at fish fries and cookouts. Gerry supported the St. William Catholic Church’s annual seafood festival in Guntersville, Alabama and was instrumental in its origin and continuation. She was also a big fan of Atlanta Braves baseball.
Surviving Mrs. Meinert are her children; Dennis Meinert (Ann), Janet Bright (George), Charles Meinert (Monique), Mary Harris ( Bill) and John Meinert; her grandchildren, Matthew Meinert, LeeAnn Meinert, Jacob Bright, Jeremie Bright, Lauren Johnston, Amelia Daniels, Daniel Meinert, Anna Doaks, Rebecca Harris and Jackie Kalik; great grandchildren, Tanner Bright, Ava Bright, Leo Johnston, Griffin Daniels, JJ Doaks, and Waylon Meinert.
Preceding Mrs. Meinert in death is her husband, Leo George Meinert, parents, Charles and Mary Elbe, siblings, Kenneth Elbe and Harry Elbe.
Escorting Mrs. Meinert to her final resting place will be Matthew Meinert, Jacob Bright, Daniel Meinert, Tanner Bright, Alex Kalik, and Jeremy Doaks.
The Funeral Mass for Mrs. Meinert will be on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. William Catholic Church in Guntersville, Alabama. Interment will be at the Arab Memorial Cemetery in Arab, Alabama. Father Mark Spruill will officiate.
