Alma Arnice Umphrey – Obituary

Alma Arnice Umphrey, 96 of Joppa, the Hulaco Community, died Sunday May 21, 2017 at Diversicare in Arab.
Mrs. Umphrey was born March 10, 1921 in Morgan County to Gordon Cleland and Myrtle Earwood Cleland. She worked as a seamstress for Blue Bell/Wrangler in Arab until her retirement. Her husband, Exey Hammond preceded her in death in 1981, she later married J. T. Umphrey, and he also preceded her in death.
She was a member of Grandiflora Church of Christ.
Mrs. Umphrey is survived by her grandchildren: Bill Hammond, Bob and Joyce Hammond, Rodney and Patty Hammond, Eric Hammond, Sherry and Lenny VanZandt and Carlie Hammond, thirteen great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild; three sisters: Mae King, Martha Conley and Dorothy Humphries. She was preceded in death by her husband’s: Exey Hammond and J.T. Umphrey; her sons: Bob Hammond and Elige Hammond, a brother: Winford Cleland and a sister Ila Masters.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 25, 2017 at Hebron Church of Christ Cemetery with Brother: Ronald Earwood, officiating and Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be Eric Hammond, Eli Hammond, Lenny VanZandt, Les VanZandt, Robert Whisenant and Dennis Latham.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Arab Heritage Mermaid Chapel, prior to the service.
