TUSCUMBIA-This March, inspired by Music In Our Schools Month®, the Alabama Music Hall of Fame will be featuring the artwork of five elementary schools from around Colbert County, expressing the impact that music has on the students. The program is intended to celebrate music in Alabama’s classrooms and in students’ lives. The artwork will be on display from March 28th through April 29th.

Five elementary schools consisting of Gifted and PACE students will be sharing how some of their favorite songs make them feel through sketches and drawings. Participating school are: Cherokee Elementary, Colbert Heights, Hatton Elementary, Leighton Elementary, and New Bethel Elementary. The drawings will be on display at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame beginning March 28th.

“Our students enjoy anything that has to do with music and art so they will love combining

the two for a project. They all know about the Hall of Fame so they are thrilled at the prospect of having their work on display.” said Amanda Parker Gifted Specialist for the Colbert County School System.

“I think this is an excellent way to engage students in expressing the role music plays in their

Dixie Griffin

daily lives and in their school,” says Dixie Griffin. “One mission of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame is to educate students about Alabama’s music heritage.  Music and art go hand and hand, and help to develop a student’s creative side.” said Griffin.

Visitors to the museum during this time will have the option of filling out a card to vote for their favorite, most expressive piece of work.  They will want to consider originality, creativity, and skill. The winners will be announced on April 13th, and prizes will be given out. The winner’s pieces will continue to be on display at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame until the end of the school year.

This project is a way to keep the Alabama Music Hall of Fame working with education and the community.  Please come by view and vote on the student’s work.  You can vote Tuesday thru Saturday 9:00 to 5:00, March 28th until April 12th.   For more information call 256-381-4417.
